SINGING OUR SONGS: A NIGHT OF SINGER-SONGWRITERS, Friday, October 12, 2018 at 8 p.m.

Mario Giacalone is a singer/songwriter who has been performing since the early 70’s.  Mr. Giacalone recorded as an original member of The Human Condition, and continues to write songs and sing both as a solo artist and with acts including Mario Brothers, Giacalone and Sard, and Croton Landing. Bev Grant is featured on the Grammy-nominated Best of Broadside album and is the founder and director of the Brooklyn Women’s Chorus. Her song “We Were There” has become an anthem of women in the labor movement, and many other of her award-winning songs can be found on her numerous recordings. Lindsey Wilson is a singer-songwriter known originally for folk music who has moved into free jazz over the past couple of years with her band Lindsey Wilson and the Human Hearts Trio.  Joshua Garcia is a Folk-Singer-Songwriter whose music and writing style draw from the influences of his musical heroes Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, and Johnny Cash.

SONIA DE LOS SANTOS with the Cumbia River Band, Friday, November 2, 2018 at 8 p.m.

Sonia De Los Santos was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico and since 2007 has been touring the world, singing in English and Spanish, playing guitar and jarana and lighting up the stage with Grammy Award-winning group Dan Zanes and Friends. Sonia has made numerous appearances as a singer and guitarist on TV shows like ABC’s Good Morning America, CBS’s The Early Show and has performed with her band in renowned venues and festivals such as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, The Getty Museum, Austin City Limits, Madison Square Park and many more.

ALASTAIR MOOCK, Friday, February 22, 2019 at 8 p.m.

Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Alastair Moock has made a name for himself on the folk and Americana circuit, touring throughout the U.S. and Europe and playing renowned events like the Newport Folk Festival. When Moock’s twin daughters were born, he turned his focus to children’s music, releasing four award-winning albums for kids and families. This spring, he returned to his singer-songwriter roots with his first “grownup” album release in ten years. The Boston Globe calls him “one of the town’s best and most adventurous songwriters” and The Washington Post says “every song is a gem.”

GABRIEL ROYAL, Friday, March 8, 2019 at 8 p.m.

Influenced by Stevie Wonder’s groove to Burt Bacharach’s relaxed, jazzy yet poppy sensitivities, including outcast contemporary artists such as John Legend, Hiatus Coyote, Flying Lotus, James Blake, Janellle Monae and Thundercat, Gabriel’s trademark sound is his singing over a cello, the result being an easy listening modern chamber pop.  Gabriel Royal, his self-titled debut album, was produced, engineered and programmed in Brooklyn.

BROOKLYN WOMEN’S CHORUS, Friday, May 10, 2019 at 8 p.m.

A community chorus, The Brooklyn Women’s Chorus was formed in October 1997 by Park Slope resident and musician, Bev Grant. With a repertoire ranging from South African freedom songs to socially relevant songs by contemporary American songwriters like Garth Brooks, Jackson Browne, Pat Humphries and Bev Grant, song topics range from freedom and justice to peace, resistance and women’s labor history. Their albums include Brooklyn Women’s Chorus and the Power of Song, and I Will Sing, which was recorded live at Tribeca PAC in 2014.  The Brooklyn Women’s Chorus is its own sanctuary for women who are seeking community and a safe place to find and raise their voice in song.
