BMCC Student Named CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month

Christian Pacode has been named the CUNYAC/Hospital for Special Surgery Scholar-Athlete of the Month for September 2015. The BMCC sophomore has maintained a 3.92 GPA in Accounting while being a leader for the Panthers on and off the field.

Soccer has been influential in his life ever since he was young, but after visiting the BMCC campus, Pacode was influenced by the school’s academic and athletic programs to commit himself to being a part of both. Pacode is now in the beginning of his third semester at BMCC as an Accounting major and while he maintains an impressive 3.92 GPA, the Panthers’ defender does find being a student-athlete to be a little challenging.

“It’s definitely not easy. I plan out my schedule beforehand, so I can go to class, find time to study, and still fit in practice,” says Pacode.

In addition to his academic discipline and athleticism on the soccer pitch, Pacode is also a member of the accounting club and a volunteer that recently spent his time working at a Bronx soup kitchen. This student-athlete is also a guitarist in a jazz band and finds time to be a volunteer at school events.

“I am not surprised, Christian has put tremendous effort into his classes since he arrived at BMCC last year. It is great to see a player like Pacode receive recognition for all of his hard work on and off the field,” remarked Coach Modou Seck.

On the field, the Ivory Coast native has been a starting member of the defense that has shut out four different opponents and allowed just four goals the entire season. Pacode has started in each of the 11 games he has played for the Panthers this season. He is a contributing factor to the defensive back line which has been almost impenetrable this year. Four times this season, the Panthers’ defense has not allowed a single shot on goal, while nine times this season they have allowed five shots on goal or fewer.
