In a groundbreaking move to enhance educational pathways for students, Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) signed an articulation agreement with Clark Atlanta University (CAU). The signing ceremony took place on the CAU campus in Atlanta and marks a significant partnership between two esteemed institutions focused on expanding opportunities for students pursuing higher education.

This articulation agreement enables BMCC students to seamlessly transfer to CAU after completing their associate degree, providing them with a clear pathway to earn a bachelor’s degree at a prestigious Historically Black College or University (HBCU). The partnership underscores the commitment of both institutions to support student success and academic achievement.

“The signing of this articulation agreement marks a transformative moment for many of our students,” said Dr. Anthony Munroe, President of BMCC. “This is a tremendous opportunity that will open new doors for them to continue their academic journey at an institution that will help catapult their careers. They will not only receive a world-class education but also become part of a rich legacy that HBCUs represent.”

Clark Atlanta University, known for its strong academic programs and vibrant campus culture, boasts a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1865. As one of the leading HBCUs in the nation, CAU provides an environment that fosters leadership, academic excellence, and community engagement. The university has produced countless alumni who have gone on to make significant contributions across various fields, reinforcing its reputation as a powerhouse of education and innovation.

“We are excited to forge this partnership with Borough of Manhattan Community College, which stands as a testament to our shared vision of expanding access to higher education,” said President George T. French, Jr., Ph.D. of Clark Atlanta University. “This articulation agreement embodies our commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders and innovators.” He adds, “by providing BMCC students with a pathway to Clark Atlanta University, we are not only enriching their academic experience but also empowering them to make meaningful contributions to society. Together, we are building a future where education knows no boundaries.”

Transferring to CAU offers numerous benefits for BMCC students, including access to specialized programs, dedicated faculty, and a supportive community that prioritizes student development. At CAU, students can immerse themselves in a culturally rich atmosphere that celebrates African American history and achievements, while gaining a comprehensive education that prepares them for professional success.

The articulation agreement guarantees admission for BMCC graduates who meet specific criteria, including a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. The partnership ensures that prior coursework will be accepted, facilitating a smooth transition for students as they move toward their academic and career goals.

As BMCC and CAU embark on this collaborative journey, they reaffirm their dedication to fostering academic excellence and empowering students from diverse backgrounds. This partnership not only enhances the educational landscape but also exemplifies the transformative power of collaboration in higher education.

About Clark Atlanta University

Clark Atlanta University was formed with the consolidation of Atlanta University and Clark College. Atlanta University, established in 1865 by the American Missionary Association, was the nation’s first institution to award graduate degrees to African Americans. Clark College, established four years later in 1869, was the nation’s first four-year liberal arts college to serve a primarily African American student population. Today, with nearly 4,000 students, CAU is the largest of the four institutions (CAU, Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Morehouse School of Medicine) that comprise the Atlanta University Center Consortium.
