Convocation

June 2, 2022

Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) hosted the 2022 Honors Convocation on May 31 in Theatre 2 at 199 Chambers Street.   The event, which was also live-streamed, recognizes outstanding student achievement both in and outside of the classroom across numerous disciplines.

Vice President of Student Affairs Marva Craig welcomed the audience noting that a lot has changed since the before Covid-19 times. But she also said that in higher education, one thing has not changed, spring is the happiest time of year when outstanding student achievement is celebrated.

“They will call you by name because you have earned front row seats on academic excellence,” VP Craig told the Honors Convocation awardees.

Provost and Senior Vice President Erwin J. Wong told the Honors graduates they represent the epitome of student success. “You have exceeded in extraordinary fashion,” he said.

BMCC President Anthony E. Munroe said the accomplishments of the graduates was even more remarkable when considering the many challenges they had faced over the past two years.

“Seeing all of you this evening gives me a sense of pride, in knowing you are representing the next generation of leaders, change agents in a world that needs your leadership, a world that’s been turned upside-down and inside-out by tragedies and horrific acts of violence,” said President Munroe. “You have a duty and responsibility to bring change and you have the power to make our world better.”
