The Niche 2025 Best Community Colleges in America ranking has named Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) #1 among community colleges in New York state, and #20 among community colleges nationwide.
Niche defines itself as a market leader in connecting colleges and schools with students and families, and cites over 140 million reviews and ratings as a resource for its rankings.
The Niche rankings are also based on a rigorous analysis of academic, admissions, financial and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Census, Common Core Data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and more.
“Parents and potential students rely on search engines like Niche to evaluate the best options for college based on whatever criteria matters most to them, including campus safety, academic programs, diversity, athletics and other factors,” says Rosslynn Pieters, Marketing Director in the BMCC Office of Public Affairs.
BMCC’s good standing in the Niche rankings reflects the college’s 60 associate degree programs, five certificate programs, and a microcredential program in cybersecurity. Top programs based on enrollment numbers include Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Psychology and Computer Science.
BMCC also provides pathways to enable students a smooth transfer from graduating with their associate degree, to entering a bachelor’s degree program through BMCC’s transfer partnerships with CUNY and State University of New York (SUNY) colleges, as well as with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) including Morehouse College.
Pipeline programs that support transfers to prestigious private colleges include BMCC’s partnerships with NYU and others through the Transfer Scholars Network.
Free tutoring, cohort programs, support for veteran and nontraditional students, and a student body that hails from the New York City area as well as from over 100 countries—providing a global, vibrant classroom dynamic—add to the benefits of attending BMCC.
“Being ranked #1 on Niche.com, one of the leading college search sites, is a significant achievement for BMCC. This recognition reassures prospective students and their families that BMCC is the best choice to start or continue their education. In a competitive landscape, this ranking underscores our commitment to academic excellence and our supportive community, which empowers students to ‘Start Here and Go Anywhere,’” said Director Pieters.
