Almost 500 Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) students donned professional attire and made their way to the BMCC gym for the Fall 2015 Center for Career Development Career Fair on Tuesday, September 22.
More than ninety employers attended the event looking to hire students for companies and organizations ranging from real estate to customer service.
“We offer full benefits after 60 days of employment, and for someone that works for the company six months or longer, they are eligible for tuition assistance, “ said Jill Riccardi, a representative from New York City based “Juice Generation.”
BMCC President Dr. Antonio Peréz says the career fair continues to be a successful event at BMCC.
“I’ve talked to some of the employers here today, and they’ve said they have fantastic experiences with BMCC students and that’s why they keep coming back,” said Peréz.
The Career Development Center had also set up a social media station on one side of the gym.
Career Development had a photographer in attendance so students could get a headshot for their LinkedIn page.
“Since everyone looks nice and professional, we thought that people might want to stop by and get a professional headshot,” said Jon Colon, career advisor at the BMCC Center for Career Development.
“This is so well organized,” said Liberal Arts major Julio Gonzalez who was mapping out a plan of action for the fair with his friend Criminal Justice Major Diana Garcia.
“I’m actually looking for an internship opportunity,” said Gonzales, who plans to eventually transfer to a four-year school and major in environmental science.
Criminal Justice Major Garcia, has similar plans, but for now, she’s looking for a job to help pay her bills while she is in school.
“I really like this career fair, there is a lot of variety in this room,” said Garcia.
BMCC Center for Career Development Director Won Kang said the event was a tremendous success.
“I had an employer and a student both say it was the best career fair they had attended,” said Kang.
