The Admissions Specialist is a member of the Office of Admissions and will report to the Director of Admissions. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Plan and implement a BMCC visit experience for prospective students and families.

Market to, identify, hire, train, and mentor a dynamic team of BMCC students to serve as tour guides and admissions ambassadors.

Create and manage adequate scheduling and coverage for student ambassador tour staff.

Monitor, supervise, and evaluate student staff to ensure all standards are met, best practices are being implemented, and all students are maintaining professional conduct and upholding the highest customer service standards.

Develop a training manual for student staff, an onboarding process, and sustained training throughout their appointment.

Assist in the planning, preparation, and communication for all on-campus events.

Work closely with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs, integrating and highlighting the various programs and opportunities they offer to successfully market the full BMCC experience.

Provide support for college admissions enrollment, retention and persistence operations.

Partner with other college offices in assisting to organize marketing and communications strategies that support the recruitment, registration and retention of students, with special emphasis on the college’s special programs, e.g. BMCC Learning Academy, CUNY Start, ASAP, etc.

Provide assistance with major college-wide events such as Open Houses, Commencement, Honors Convocation, Orientation and Registration.

Serve as a recruiter for high school, community, and corporate agencies.

Serve on college committees as required.


Supervises activities in an operational unit supporting Admissions and/or Enrollment.

Oversees staff activities; plans and monitors employee scheduling and coverage and coordinates training

Serves as liaison to one or more departments providing student support services, such as Financial Aid Coordinates selection process activities such as applications review, verification of information, and timely forwarding of data to other CUNY areas

Coordinates mailings and other communications

Monitors activity and reports on both transactions and outcomes

Completes projects to improve services and enhance productivity and cost-effectiveness

Performs related duties as assigned.


Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

Other Qualifications:

Master’s degree in higher education, communications, marketing or a related field preferred.

Three years of full-time experience in a higher education setting required, preferably in a diverse higher education setting with prior experience creating and managing communication and marketing plans (of the required four years total experience).

Experience with a CRM software strongly referred.

Understanding of the admissions process, as well as persistence and retention issues in higher education preferred.

Knowledge of best practices in student success program implementation, with an emphasis on research, assessment and data-informed decision making desirable.

Possess superior interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with attention to detail.

Be a dynamic individual who can work independently and under general

supervision to provide courteous and accurate customer service to all students, visitors and the campus community.

Have a record of successful implementation of new programs for a diverse student population with evidence of successful college-wide collaborations a plus.

Proficiency in Microsoft Suite required, managing social media, designing promotional and informational materials.

Work schedule will include some evenings and weekends.


Salary $47,340 - $81,855
