CSTEP Benefits

There are many benefits to joining CSTEP. Here are some of the highlights.

Work on an Individual Research Project

As a Research Member of CSTEP you will work on a research project with a mentor from the BMCC faculty and staff. Working with a mentor gives you the opportunity to explore a specific subject in much more detail than what would be possible in a course.

Stipend

Students who participate as a research member will receive a stipend at the end of each semester in which they participate in mentor guided research.

Connections to Other Colleges and Universities

CSTEP has sister programs in 51 other colleges and universities in the state of New York. BMCC CSTEP has formal agreements with the CSTEP programs of several schools, including City College, SUNY College of Optometry, Long Island University and Fordham University. BMCC CSTEP students are encouraged to enter CSTEP at institutions of higher learning to continue careers in STEM related fields.

CSTEP Student Conference

BMCC CSTEP students present their projects to their peers at the end of every semester and during the BMCC Annual Poster Presentation in March. From these presenters winners are selected to represent BMCC at the annual CSTEP Student Conference. The CSTEP Student Conference is held at the Sagamore resort in upstate New York. Students will participate in the conference and compete against CSTEP students from other institutions at the state level.
