Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)
What is PSLF?
The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program is a federal program created for those in public service jobs, offering the opportunity to have certain federal loan balances forgiven after 120 qualifying monthly payments.
Where can I get the PSLF certification and application form?
Active employees can submit PSLF certification requests directly through CUNYfirst Employee Self-Service (ESS) by following the instructions below.
Submitting requests through ESS will notify HR to review and verify your employment. Moving forward, employees are encouraged to submit PSLF requests through ESS. Although you are still able to work with HR in person to verify your employment for PSLF purposes, be advised that HR will input the request into CUNYfirst on your behalf.

1. After logging into CUNYfirst, select Employee Self Service.
2. Select the Public Service Loan Forgiveness tile.
3. Review and information and make changes as necessary. Once you have confirmed that your information is accurate, select Submit.
4. A confirmation message will appear listing the institutions which have each been sent a request. Select OK to acknowledge the message.
5. You can select Submission History to view your record of submissions to various institutions. The Business Unit, Start Date and End Dates on your requests will update once HR has taken action on your request.
Be advised that you will not receive email confirmations throughout this process. You are encouraged to check on the status of your requests frequently and to follow up with HR if you have not heard back in a timely manner.
How do I obtain employer information and signatures I need?
Employees need to obtain the signatures from their campus HR Department. Use the appropriate EIN # for your college.

What if I work at more than one campus?
Current employees who use the Employee Self-Service (ESS) Tool will automatically have their applications go to each campus they work at. Former employees are responsible to fill-out a separate PSLF form per campus they worked at to obtain the signed verification from EACH campus HR department.
