Josephine H. Culkin
BMCCC Media Arts & Technology Professor Josephine Culkin is an artist who has shown her sculptures, photographs and new media pieces at museums and galleries throughout this country, including P.S 1, the Clock Tower, the Boca Raton Museum of Art, the Neuberger Museum, the Bronx Museum, and internationally, including IV Salon y Coloquio International de Arte Digital in Havana, Cuba; Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome Italy; Amerika Haus in Cologne, Germany; Canterbury Arts Festival in Canterbury, England. She received an Artists Fellowship in Sculpture from the New York Foundation on the Arts, a sponsored project grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, a Design Award from the New York City Department of Transportation, and a research fellowship from NYU??A?A?s Interactive Telecommunications Department.

Courses Taught
- The uses of cost accounting concepts and methods that are used to guide management in controlling operations and in making decisions are studied. Topics covered include cost-profit-volume analysis, standard cost, flexible and capital budgeting, inventory planning and control, direct costing, and the contribution margin approach to product costing. Prerequisite: ACC 350
- This image-based course will introduce graphic design as the foundation upon which effective visual communication is built. Investigation of the elements and principles of graphic design will lead to specific design problems and their solution. The development of ideas and the ability to communicate them effectively will be covered. Discussion of both vector and bitmap-based digital graphic platforms will begin progress toward industry-standard computer proficiency.
- Building on the principles learned in introduction to multimedia, students will learn to manipulate graphics and text in more sophisticated ways for use in print layout as well as multimedia. An emphasis will be placed on design concepts for the creation of pages.
Prerequisite: MMP 100 and MMA 100
Course Syllabus - This course introduces the basic concepts of programming for multimedia. Students will learn the principles of object-oriented programming and how to create scripts for the manipulation of graphics, audio and text to construct a web-based multimedia presentation. Prerequisite: MMP 100
- Students will learn to design and create motion graphics for multimedia, building projects appropriate both for internet applications and for film and video. Students will learn how to use a vector-based animation program such as Flash MX and animation and visual effects compositing programs to create original work. An emphasis will be placed on planning projects and developing narratives through the use of storyboards. Prerequisite: MMP 100 or MMA 100
