Gene Iannuzzi has been involved in emergency services for over 40 years. He first came to BMCC in 1997 as an adjunct professor, and began his role as Director of the Paramedic Program in the Allied Health Sciences Department, in February of 2013.

Professor Iannuzzi is a Registered Nurse (RN), a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) and a New York State certified paramedic. He serves as a Regional Faculty member for Basic and Advanced Life Support for the American Heart Association, is a NYS EMS Certified Instructor Coordinator, and has been active in presenting educational programs in pre-hospital emergency care, disaster preparedness, incident command, weapons of mass destruction, hospital evacuation training and others.

Prior to coming to BMCC, Professor Iannuzzi was the Trauma Program Manager at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, and he has held a variety of clinical and managerial positions in EMS, nursing and healthcare emergency management dating back to 1975 a?? including stints as an Emergency Department Manager, Hospital Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, ER nurse, and 911 system paramedic in NYC and Westchester.

Professor Iannuzzi has also served on EMS policy-making committees in both New York City and Westchester, currently serving on the NYC REMAC Certification and Credentialing Committee, and as an at-large member of the Westchester Regional EMS Council, where he chairs the Policy and Procedure Subcommittee. He is a member of the communications committee of the National Association of EMS Educators (NAEMSE) and was recently published a??Discipline Dilemmas: Dealing With Student Clinical Document Frauda?? in the NAEMSE peer reviewed journal Domain 3.

Having obtained his Master of Public Administration degree at Baruch College, Professor Iannuzzi also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Excelsior College, a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Communications from Lehman College, an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) from the former Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing in the Bronx, and completed his paramedic training at the former New York Infirmary-Beekman Downtown Hospital.

Professor Iannuzzi is a strong advocate for the development of EMS systems and education, and firmly believes in the professionalization of EMS through strong academic programs leading to degrees and lifelong learning.
