I received my Ph.D. in political science from the CUNY Graduate Center in 2013. I also have a B.A. in political science and a B.M. in music composition from the University of Rochester (and the Eastman School of Music), as well as a M.M. in music composition and theory from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Before graduate school, I was a social studies high school teacher in the Bronx. While at the Graduate Center, I was an adjunct for eight years across many CUNY campuses, including Queens, Hunter, Lehman, John Jay, Hostos, and York Colleges.

My research focuses on questions of power, hegemony, and the state, as well as inequality in the United States. In addition, I am curious about the nature of human consciousness, specifically as it arises through and within social relations. Lastly, I am in the midst of several translation projects, from Russian and Bulgarian to English.
