Social Justice Week: Collectively Healing our Communities by Reimagining Justice

In this panel, we will invite leaders in the field working in communities to provide support and intervention for survivors of violence. So often, we are not aware of forms of justice and violence intervention strategies that are community-based opposed to law enforcement-centric. Specifically, we learn about Paterson Healing Collective, the collaborative and hospital-based violence intervention program (HVIP), and ongoing supportive work being implemented in Paterson, NJ – New Jersey’s 3rd largest city.

Panelists will include scholar-activists, hospital staff, community members, and PHC interventionists – many who are young people and survivors of violence. The discussion will focus on PHC’s efforts and center on what led the interventionist to this critical work. In addition, we hope to expose BMCC community members, especially students who desire to positively impact their communities, to innovative ideas and strategies to restore peace and decrease interaction with the criminal legal system.
