Photography and Environmental Justice Workshop: Seeing My Environment with My Phone

April 13 at 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
| 70 Murray St., Room M-303

The BMCC community is invited to join the Photography and Environmental Justice Workshop.

This workshop will allow participants to think about issues of the environment, environmental justice, and climate change.  Participants will have a chance to go out for a few minutes into where they are located and photograph concrete manifestations of this broad subject.  Dr. Ken Fairfield will share his own experience attempting to capture visually some of these issues.  By the conclusion of the workshop, participants will have sharpened their awareness by what they and their fellow participants have discovered and photographed.  Everyone should come with a smart phone or (not necessary here!) some other camera to have the fun of photographing what intrigues them.

Join us in the Murray Building, Room M-303

About Kent Fairfield, Ph.D.
kent- fairfieldKent has dedicated much of the last decade to becoming more capable of photographing what seems important to him.  Having had the privilege of creating photos on trips abroad and informal portraits, he has moved more into what is considered documentary photography with an emphasis on visual stories of the environment, climate change and social justice.  After working in business for many years, he became an organizational psychologist, serving on the faculty at New York University and then Fairleigh Dickinson University.  He became a champion for “learning by doing” with classroom ideas, which is exemplified by this workshop.  He retired three years ago as an Associate Professor of Management.
