BMCC, in collaboration with CUNY Lehman College, has been honored to lead in the ground-breaking Cannabis Workforce and Business Development Program. The program offers no-cost training funded by the Department of Labor. Its courses stand as pivotal pathways, facilitating the establishment of businesses and fostering employment opportunities within the thriving cannabis industry.
BMCC’s program offers three distinct tracks:
BMCC’s program goes beyond technical upskilling, emphasizing the cultivation of 21st-century career readiness skills essential for thriving in the cannabis industry.
Guest speakers and industry experts provide valuable insights, enhancing the learning experience. Participants are exposed to hands-on training, ensuring they are job-ready upon completion. The program also emphasizes social equity, supporting individuals from underserved communities in accessing cannabis career opportunities.

Work in the New York Cannabis Industry

Track 1:
Cannabis Security Solutions
Open to applicants 18 or older with a valid security guard license.
The Cannabis Security Solutions track prepares students to manage security for cannabis operations, covering topics like risk management, security systems, surveillance, and compliance with state and federal cannabis laws. Students will gain practical knowledge to design and implement security measures that protect both the product and the business from theft, fraud, and other risks.

Individuals interested in safeguarding cannabis operations, managing security systems, or pursuing a career in risk management within the cannabis industry.

Track 2:
Cannabis Retail Management
Open to applicants 21 or older who are eligible to work in New York State.
The Cannabis Retail Management track provides students with the skills to manage a cannabis retail business effectively. Topics include customer service, sales strategies, inventory management, employee training, and understanding the legal and regulatory environment for cannabis retail operations. Students will also learn how to optimize the customer experience while ensuring compliance with local laws.

Those looking to manage or own cannabis retail establishments, with a focus on sales, customer service, and understanding the legal complexities of the cannabis retail environment.

Track 3:
Cannabis Manufacturing Technician
Open to applicants 18 or older who are eligible to work in New York State.
The Cannabis Manufacturing Technician track focuses on the production side of the cannabis industry, including cultivation, extraction, and product manufacturing. Students will learn about quality control, the equipment used in processing, and how to meet industry standards while maintaining safety and compliance with cannabis regulations.

People interested in the production side of cannabis, including extraction and product development, who want to work in manufacturing or processing plants.
