This two-hour workshop will hail pioneering women who have made extraordinary contributions to the field of science in the face of strong opposition and cultural, familial, and professional obstacles.
Included will be a reflection on attitudes toward women in science and the similar challenges women still face today.
The workshop will include role playing activities, simulated recreations of key discoveries, and selected video clips. Some women in science who will be showcased are
Rosalind Franklin (biophysicist)
Jocelyn Bell Burnell (astrophysicist)
Martha Chase (biologist)
Sally Ride (astronaut and physicist)
Marie Curie (chemist and physicist)
Barbara McClintock (biologist)
The workshop will be co-facilitated by Dr. Lalitha Jayant and Dr. Christine Priano.
