Summer 2024 Program Information

LAT 475 – 3 credits, 3 hours

Location: Buenos Aires, Argentina

Tentative Travel Dates: July 5 – July 22, 2024

BMCC Course Dates: June 20 – July 3 and July 23 – July 29

Course Description: Taught in English, this is a study abroad course taught abroad in a Latin American or Caribbean country. Students will tour historical sites and museums to experience both the dominant political narrative and more inclusive versions of Argentine history. Students will visit an informal settlement cooperative as well as the more newly gentrified neighborhoods.  They will volunteer with low-income children in local elementary schools.  Students will also have an opportunity to learn the history of tango firsthand.  They will attend a large folklore outdoors fair to interact with residents who have origins in the interior of Argentina and celebrate their mixed heritage.  These and other activities are all complemented by lectures from local experts which correspond to the course materials.

Prerequisite: ENG 088, ESL 062, ACR 094, or completion of a higher-level course

Housing and Meals: Students will reside in double rooms in a hotel and be provided with three meals per day.  

Program Fee: $1,800

BMCC students accepted to the program pay $1,800 which includes the Association BMCC Study abroad Scholarship. The fee covers international airfare, housing, meals, local program-related transportation, excursions, health insurance and any emergency costs related to COVID-19). Students may apply to other scholarships to help cover the program fee. Non-BMCC Students pay $4,445 for the program fee. Non-BMCC students are not eligible to receive the Association BMCC study abroad scholarship.

Additional Program Costs: BMCC tuition and fees for 3 credits, as well as out-of-pocket costs for personal expenses, visa (if needed), tips, and out-of-pocket meals.  Optional side trips to local tourist attractions may also incur additional costs. These costs are not included in the program fee. Students must pay BMCC tuition separately. Pell may be applied depending on eligibility. Program application deadline: February 1st

Students must make a $250 deposit by February 1st.
