BMCC Language Immersion for International Students (BLIIS) will provide you with the skills and confidence you need to continue your studies at the college. We focus on improving your reading and writing skills in English, as well as speaking English. Located in New York City’s vibrant Tribeca neighborhood, you will have many opportunities to practice your English language skills while exploring nearby sites.
Fall, Winter and Spring Semesters
The language immersion classes during these semesters are only for BMCC international students who have taken but not passed the CUNY tests. BMCC is authorized under Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students.
The program provides intensive instruction in all English skills, especially reading and writing, to prepare you for credit-bearing college courses. You may choose to attend the BMCC Language Immersion for International Students (BLIIS) if you are:
- a BMCC international freshman or transfer student who didn’t pass the CUNY tests because English is not your first language
- an international ESL student who has been recommended by the ESL department, or is on academic notice

Classes are only available in-person due to international visa requirements. There are no remote options.
