Executive Director of Human Resources
As Executive Director of Human Resources, Gulen H. Zubizarreta is responsible for planning and directing the college’s human resources functions in accordance with the policies, procedures, rules, regulations and bylaws of the College and CUNY and provide guidance and collaboration with divisions across the college on workforce matters, HR information systems and staff performance management.
Prior to joining BMCC, Ms. Zubizarreta served as the Director of Internal Control and Asset Management at John Jay College of Criminal Justice/CUNY, where she developed and implemented the internal control and compliance programs and its related entities to assure achievement of the College’s objectives in operational, financial, and strategic initiatives. At John Jay, Ms. Zubizarreta also served as Director of Human Resources and collaborated with administration and departments on human resources, labor relations, and other areas to plan human resources strategies and programs at the College and University levels. Prior to serving as Director of HR, Ms. Zubizarreta served as Interim Director of HR and Deputy Director of Human Resources, and Faculty and Staff Relations Manager at John Jay.
Ms. Zubizarreta’s prior work experience also includes serving as Recruitment Assistant with the Visiting Nurse Service of New York; Employment Specialist with Southwestern Oklahoma State University; and as an architect with Toprak Seramik Pazarlama ve Ticaret, Inc. GNA Mimarlik A.S. in Izmir, Turkey.
Ms. Zubizarreta has a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of South Dakota, a Master’s degree in Structural Construction Design and Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, both from Dokuz Eylul University, in Izmir, Turkey. She has also completed courses in business and human resources management and Spanish at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
