Amherst College Community College Transfer Collaboration Agreement
Amherst College has partnered with the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation to provide exceptional academic and scholarship options to high achieving students with limited financial resources. Students are eligible for transfer admission if they have completed one year as a full-time student at a community college. Two years of college work is preferred. Competitive applicants should have at least an A- average. All applicants must be capable of enrolling as full-time students. Credit is granted for courses in the Liberal Arts only. Students must fulfill a two-year residency requirements (4 full semesters) at Amherst. During the admissions process, close attention is paid to students':
- College transcript
- Recommendations
- Quality of writing as demonstrated in essays
- Extra and co-curricular involvement and talents
Special services and support for Community College Students:
- Special welcome dinner and events for community college transfer and their families
- Designated staff liaison in the Dean of Students Office
- A transfer student alliance group
- A mentoring program that allows community college transfer to stay in touch with faculty from their community
- Targeted outreach from Amherst's Writing Center, Quantitative Skills Center and Career Center
- Funds to help cover expenses incurred by needy transfer students during their senior year, i.e. graduate school interviews
Amherst's first Annual Community College Transfer Day will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2006. Amherst will reimburse all travel expenses for accepted guests to and from the institution. Students may pick up registration materials in room S763. All students are required to submit a college transcript with their completed paperwork.
