A Scholarship Program for Success
The BMCC Out in Two scholarship is an academic program designed to help students graduate within two consecutive years. Students will be notified of the program upon entry into BMCC.
Students will be eligible after completing their first semester, if they meet the eligibility criteria outlined below. Students will receive a scholarship award in their last three consecutive semesters, provided they meet all the guidelines of the program.
Eligibility Criteria
- • Students must be first-time freshmen. (This excludes all transfer students, regardless of whether or not credits were transferred into BMCC.)
- • Students must be enrolled in an AA, AS, or AAS degree program excluding Nursing (NUR), Respiratory Therapy (RTT), Health Information Technology (HIT), Paramedic (EMT), and Engineering Science (ESC).
- • Students must earn a minimum of 12 degree credits and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher in their first semester.
Selection Process
Students who meet the eligibility criteria listed above must complete an application and write a one-page essay entitled "What a College Education Means to Me." The final selection of students for the Out in Two scholarship program will be based on first the semester's GPA and essays.
Program Requirements
- • Students must complete all remedial requirements, if applicable, before earning 27 degree credits.
- • Students must earn a minimum of 12 degree credits per semester, and have a minimum of 27 degree credits earned at the end of the second semester, including summers. At the end of the third semester, students must have earned a minimum of 45 degree credits.
- • Students must graduate within four consecutive fall and spring semesters from their date of entry into BMCC. Degree credits earned in the summers will also be counted.
- • Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 each semester and summer throughout the program.
- • Student are required to receive academic support services, if needed.
- • Students will receive a $1400 grant in each of their last three consecutive semesters provided they meet all the criteria of the program. Students may be eligible for an additional $550 summer grant under certain provisions.
- • Students will receive guaranteed and early registration and will be assigned an academic advisor who will discuss their academic progress with them on a regular basis.
- • Students will be provided financial aid advisement.
- • Students will be eligible to receive employment on campus as a peer advisor or tutor.
