Who must take the CUNY Skills Assessment tests?
All new students entering BMCC must take the CUNY Skills Assessment tests after they have been admitted and before registering.

In order to transfer from a CUNY community college to a CUNY senior college, or to move from an Associate degree program to a Baccalaureate degree program, a student must have passed the tests. Students from outside the University who wish to transfer to a CUNY college are required to take the tests and be placed at the appropriate skills levels.

The registration process at BMCC will not continue for those students (including transfer students) who failed to take all three components of the CUNY Skills Assessment Tests. Students may be exempt from the CUNY Skills Assessment Tests.

Where and when are the tests given?
The tests are administered by the BMCC Testing Office. New students are scheduled to take the tests by mail, upon admission. The CUNY Skills Assessment Tests may take as much as four hours to administer.
More information about taking the exams.
What can students do to prepare for the tests?
The tests are intended to measure skills in reading, writing, and mathematics at high school level. Students may wish to practice their skills beforehand. There are many resources to help students thoroughly prepare for the exams.

Students are also strongly encouraged to take a short workshop to prepare for the CUNY placement exams. These FREE workshops, offered through the Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development, review test-taking skills for reading, writing, and mathematics. To register for a workshop see the Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development or call them at 212-220-8350.

Additional informational materials are available from the Testing Office in N-700.

What should students bring with them to the tests?
Students should know their Social Security Number and bring in a valid picture I.D. (such as a driver's license), two pens, and four sharpened #2 pencils for the CUNY Skills Assessment Tests.

Students cannot use any reference aids, either paper or electronic devices, of any kind to use during the test and must not give or receive help during the test.

How are students notified of the test results?
You can obtain your test scores online through Panther. Test results are not provided over the telephone.

If you have a question about your test results, please visit the Academic Advisement and Transfer Center.

Students with special needs who are unable to test under standard conditions should contact the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities at 212-220-8180 to make appropriate arrangements for testing.
I transferred to another CUNY college and they say they want me to send them my scores. Can you send it to them? It will take approximately 72 hours for the scores to be transferred to UAPC (SKAT).
Do you administer CLEP exams?
