This is a study abroad course in which students will enhance their knowledge of Spanish culture through class meetings, seminars, and on-site visits to places of historic and cultural importance. Students will be immersed in the culture of Spain and attend Spanish literature and writing classes and lectures on the culture, traditions and history of Spain. The purpose is to consolidate knowledge of popular and sentimental Spanish literature and expose students to the different aspects of Spanish culture and history.
BMCC's Study Abroad in Spain program has been designed for students with a minimum proficiency of at least two semesters of elementary Spanish. The program is based at the University of Oviedo, Asturias. Oviedo, the capital of the principality of Asturias, is a region of ocean and mountains and the center of an original and unique architectural expression, inheritor of Visigoth, Roman and Nordic traditions. Students will take language, literature, civilization, and culture.
To this end, the class will use the following outline:
Program Fee: $1,300 (approximately - includes international airfare, health insurance, and program-related transportation in Oviedo, excursions, housing and some meals)
Additional Costs: BMCC tuition and fees for 3 credits, as well as out‐of‐pocket costs for personal expenses, visa, tips, and out-of‐pocket meals. Optional side trips to local tourist attractions may also incur additional costs.
Prerequisite: Either A) Spanish 102, or Spanish 106, or Spanish 103 or 107 or higher
Or B) Proficiency in SPN 102 or 106 as determined by the Modern Languages Department placement test plus at least three credits in a foreign language taught at CUNY.
