What is Single Stop?
Single Stop provides FREE referrals to services that can help address the needs of BMCC students so they can remain in school and succeed academically.
Free Services For Students
- NEW:E-submit Food Stamp Applications
- Free Quick Screening
If you do not have any health insurance, or insufficient food, Single Stop may be able to help. By reviewing public benefits, we can determine which state and city benefits you may be eligible for. You can also decide which services you would like to apply for. Using our fast application process, Single Stop can help you apply for these services.
- Financial Counseling
Whether you have poor credit, good credit or no credit, come to Single Stop and speak with the Financial Counselor (FC). The FC will review your credit report, explain everything it outlines, and discuss the actions you need to take to improve weak credit or to build or re-build your credit. The FC will also help you develop a budget, so you can obtain a savings account.
- Legal Counseling
Attorneys will assist you with issues you may have with your landlord, immigration status, and representation on fair hearing issues for public benefits. Single Stop attorneys will also provide information on free classes for citizenship.
- Tax Preparation
Tax preparers will help you complete the paperwork necessary for filing your taxes, while advising you about the tax credits that may be available to you. If you have a bank account, the tax preparer will help ensure that you receive your refund through direct deposit. If you do not have a bank account, your tax refund will be mailed to you.
