The Clements Law Biannual College Scholarship Essay Contest

Who Is Eligible:

Individuals who are planning on attending college or graduate school at an accredited United States college or university during the fall semester of 2016 are eligible to participate in the college scholarship essay contest. Individuals under 18 should obtain the consent of their parent or legal guardian to participate.


Requirements:

In order to participate in the contest, applicants must submit a 500-word essay responding to the following question:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that there were some 424,000 people injured in accidents involving distracted drivers during 2013. Distracted driving has become a serious public health issue, in no small part due to the popularity of smart phones and other personal Internet-enabled devices in recent years. Texas is one of a few states that has not placed restrictions on the way that all drivers can use cell phones. Do you think this type of legislation would reduce the risk of accidents attributable to distracted driving? Why or why not? Essays will be judged upon the following criteria:
