Change of Curriculum Policy

The following is the policy of the Nursing Department regarding students who are not currently enrolled as Undeclared Health (UDH) students and want to apply for the nursing program and take the Kaplan Admission Test (KAT).

  1. All remedial requirements must be completed.
  2. Students must have a competitive average in the four required pre-requisite courses (ENG 101, PSY100, MAT 104, and BIO 425) and in the overall Grade Point Average (GPA) to apply for admission into the Day and Evening/Weekend (Saturday) Clinical Nursing programs, respectively.
  3. The competitive average in the four required pre-requisite courses and in the overall GPA is determined by the previous semester’s competitive average for the four required pre-requisite courses and overall GPA for admission.
  4. Students must wait one semester after completion of the four required pre-requisite courses to apply for admission into the full-time Day Nursing Program and the part-time Evening/Weekend (Saturday) Program. Please be aware that students who want to apply for the Day Program must complete BIO 426 to be eligible to take the Kaplan Admission Test. 
  5. Students who work full-time during the day and want to apply to the part-time Evening/Weekend
    Nursing (Saturday) Program must complete in addition to the four required pre-requisite courses, the following courses: BIO 426, BIO 420, PSY 240 or SOC 100 to apply for admission into the part-time Evening/Weekend (Saturday) Program.
  6. Attain a successful score on the Kaplan Admission Test (KAT) taken at the College.
  7. Please be aware that admission into the nursing program is also based on seat availability. The College does not guarantee admission into the nursing program.

Admission Examination Policy:

Students must take Kaplan Admission Test (KAT) at the College. Kaplan Admission Test (KAT) scores from other nursing schools will not be accepted. This examination may be taken for a maximum of two times but NOT in the same semester.
To reserve a seat for the Kaplan Admission Test (KAT), eligible BMCC students MUST:

  1. Have completed BIO 426. 
  2. Fill-out an application for the Nursing Program with the Academic Advisor during Early Academic Advisement in the Spring and the Fall semester.
