Two BMCC students, both graduating this semester, were named to the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All State Community College Academic Team.
Representing BMCC for the 2012 All-New York Academic Team were Liberal Arts major Andre Barber and a Multimedia Arts major Cindy Donald. They are pictured above with PTK advisor Claire Pamplin.
Along with students from other New York community colleges, Barber and Donald were honored at a formal ceremony recently held in Albany.
Each two-year college in New York may nominate two students per campus to the All-USA Academic Team. Students from New York nominated to the national team comprise the All-New York Academic Team. Nominations are based on outstanding academic performance and service to the college and community.
Barber and Donald received a medal and a certificate for their accomplishments.
“I love that PTK recognizes the achievements and hard work of students such as myself,” says Donald, an aspiring graphic designer who currently interns for the NYC Department of Probation.
“Additionally, Professors Claire Pamplin, Zhanna Yablokova and Jody Culkin have been instrumental in my success at BMCC.”
Barber, who worked at Starbucks and at John F. Kennedy airport while attending BMCC, volunteers at Metropolitan Hospital. An aspiring doctor, he says his involvement with PTK “prepared me well, both socially and academically,” for a four-year college.
Barber will attend City College of New York this fall, while Donald is interested in St. John’s University.
