The BMCC Panthers men’s basketball team successfully defended their home court this past Friday February 20, knocking off the number three seed Bronx Broncos at the CUNYAC/Army ROTC Community College Men's Basketball Finals.
The Panthers, who have posted a 10-0 regular-season conference record, improve to 25-3 on the season and head into next weekend's Region XV Tournament at Suffolk County Community College as the number one seed according to Andrew Capitelli, BMCC Sports Information Director. If the team wins that tournament, they’ll head to the nationals.
As of Monday, the BMCC team is ranked number four in the nation.
BMCC Sophomore Joseph Ojo was named the Friday tournament’s Most Valuable Player. And on the Thursday before the game, BMCC freshman Kenneth Coar was named CUNY Community College player of the year.
On Monday, Capitelli said an enthusiastic packed house of over 1,000 watched the game at the school’s gym Friday night. “They’ve got a great coach with Nolan Adams, they played as a team, they played for each other,” he said of student athletes.
