Professor Barrero's New Anthology of Poet Jane KenyonIn Professor Barrero’s bilingual anthology, “De otra mannera” (“Otherwise”), he has translated into Spanish the poetry of Jane Kenyon. He says he chose this title because it is the title of one of Kenyon’s most popular poems. Kenyon was born in 1947 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and grew up in the Midwest. She earned a B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1970 and an M.A. in 1972. While a student at the University of Michigan, Kenyon met the poet Donald Hall; though he was some twenty years her senior, they married in 1972 and moved to Eagle Pond Farm, his ancestral home in Wilmot, New Hampshire. Kenyon was New Hampshire's poet laureate when she died of leukemia in April of 1995. |

Can the U.S. and Iran Come to Terms?
The continuing chill between Washington and Tehran owes much to the intransigence of their leaders, says Mohammad Soleymani. A thaw will come only after both men have left office. "It is logical to expect that the U.S. and Iran would have amicable diplomatic relations," says BMCC economics professor Mohammad Soleymani. "For one thing, both countries want regional stability for the smooth flow of oil. And both have common enemies, such as the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. Yet there have been no diplomatic relations – amicable or otherwise – between the two countries for 27 years." In a paper written by Soleymani. He examines the reasons behind the continuing hostility between Iran and the United States. He expanded on his views in a recent interview with Inside BMCC. |
