Faculty Artists Share Their Vision

BMCC’s talented faculty artists showcase recent work in a new exhibit, At This Moment, in the Shirley Fiterman Art Center.

The Music and Art Department offers over 200 classes in music performance, music history and theory, studio art and art history, providing all BMCC students with opportunities to explore different visual media and musical outlets.

Housed in the Music and Art Department, the Art Foundations Program offers an Associate in Science (A.S.) in Studio Art and Associate in Arts (A.A.) in Art History degree programs

Launched fall semester 2015, the Art Foundations program was created to prepare BMCC students for careers in the arts.

BMCC art faculty works with Studio Art majors to build student portfolios for successful transitions to top art and design schools.

Art history majors take courses in major periods and the arts of diverse areas of the globe as well as a thesis course culminating in a comprehensive research paper using proper methodologies.

BMCC has active articulation agreements for graduates with the A.A. in Art History and the A.S. in Studio Art with Queens College –CUNY.

“It is important for students advancing to 4-year colleges, and possibly beyond, to understand the influences and use of the arts in diverse periods and regions before choosing a concentration. Art history majors will benefit by experiencing art making in required studio art courses. It is my opinion that those with hands-on experience in the media and techniques of art make the best art historians, and some of the greatest artists have knowledge of past production in the arts. For both majors, our goal is to produce well-rounded, advanced students.”
Dr. Michael Morford, Assistant Professor of Art History
