MEDIA CENTER EDITING LABS
The Media Center operates three post-production labs for student use. They are the Avid Digital Video Lab in S-506, the Avid Digital Video Lab in S-507 and the Graphics and Editing Lab in S-506.

Use of these labs is restricted to registered BMCC students who have a demonstrable academic need approved by an instructor. Corporate and Cable Communications majors and Multimedia Production students are given priority use for these facilities.

Students must book lab time in advance using a request form. Bookings can not be made more than ten business days in advance. Lab time is limited to three hours per day and nine hours a week. While drop-in access is discouraged, students may come in to use the labs on a standby basis, but they must complete a request form.

These labs are dedicated to the post-production of motion pictures, the creation of graphics and the authoring of multimedia projects. Activities not directly related to these tasks are discouraged.

Students must sign-in and sign out upon entering or leaving a lab.

The student must swipe their BMCC ID card with a member of the Media Center staff overseeing that lab upon entry. Entry will be refused without the presentation of a valid BMCC ID card.

Labs generally open at 10AM Monday through Saturday. Closing time is 9PM Monday to Thursday and 4:30 PM on Friday and Saturday. When a class is scheduled in the room students not registered for that class and session must leave the room.

Headphones are required at all times during lab hours.

Students using computers in the labs may be given a user ID and a password. These are only for the use of the student they are issued to and may not be shared with another person under any circumstances.

Using the equipment in any way that causes physical damage to the equipment or that causes the erasure of files, software or the destruction or modification of the work of another is expressly prohibited.

No visitors or friends are allowed access to the lab.

The labs are a work and study place for students. Hanging out, socializing, the making of excessive noise or any behavior that can disturb the academic environment is prohibited.

No food, gum, beverages (including water) are permitted in the labs under any circumstances.

Students are expected to use the Media Center facilities in a professional, responsible manner. Inappropriate use of the equipment or improper behavior will result in denial of access to labs pending report to instructor and/or disciplinary action.
