Why BLA?

Community

The Learning Academy is a small learning community program that will allow you to connect easily with other students on campus. Through our workshops, industry visits and special events students are given opportunities to connect with their peers and make lasting friendships.

Our program also allows for you to develop a strong professional relationship with your advisor through one-on-one meetings and weekly workshops. You will work with your advisor from entrance into the program through graduation and transfer.

Student Success Workshops

The Learning Academy workshop is a wonderful way for you to connect with your peers and develop skills for self-advocacy. During the first semester of the BMCC Learning Academy workshop, you will cover topics such as student services, college policies, time management and study strategies. You will be acquainted with student service departments around campus and become familiarized with college life.

The second semester of the BMCC Learning Academy workshop will prepare you through career exploration, the transfer process and professional networking. The workshop is a wonderful opportunity for you to interact with a small group of your student peers and your advisor while adjusting to the rigors of college.

SPARC Initiative

Students Preparing for Advancement through Real Conversations (SPARC) is a learning academy initiative designed to introduce you to industries and ignite curiosity through intimate conversations with professionals in the field. Some of our recent visits have included Bloomberg L.P., BBDO, Google, Warner Music and Safe Horizons.

Student Support

As a Learning Academy student you will be supported by the entirety of our staff and program. Your personal advisor will work closely with you to ensure your experience at BMCC is valuable in addition to assisting you with staying on track to graduation.

The Learning Academy also offers one-on-one peer mentoring with current and former BLA students who understand the ins-and-outs of attending BMCC and can provide a listening ear and referrals to various services. As a student in our program, you will have the opportunity to also participate in free tutoring in various subjects provided by the Learning Academy.
