I.T. Support Assistants support routine operations and problem resolution of computing and/or communications functions at a College or Unit. They work in technical support, applications development, operations, help desk, and similar environments, as well as in the field where equipment may be located.

Work tasks include as:

• Operating, transporting, adjusting, and installing/configuring computing and related equipment

• Communicating with technology users and staff to understand, identify, document and resolve problems

• Performing simple repairs to computing and related equipment.

This job requires an individual to have knowledge basic networking, windows server administration, Microsoft database, video monitoring software & access control system.

Security systems field experience (i.e. installing & troubleshooting access control systems, CCTV, etc.) Understanding of Cisco Switches is necessary.

Experience with Alarm & analytics tools.

Maintain documentation of current network infrastructure for all the campuses.

Experience with Video management system is a plus.

Knowledge of networking-specific technologies such as IP Addressing, NAT, DNS, DHCP, network topologies, VLAN configuration, Remote Access technologies, and routing protocols.

Documents network problems and resolution for future reference.

Recommend and schedule repairs. Diagnose and resolve all access control issues related to server or network issues. Continuously work to improve the quality of technical support services. Video monitoring systems experience, Access Control systems, and demonstrate excellent comprehension of large-scale security systems Comprehensive understanding of Microsoft client and server operating systems Knowledge of the tools of the trade i.e. software utilities, video analytics software, and Microsoft diagnostic software analyzers Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting with Windows Server & Workstation operating systems. Knowledge of cisco switches is a plus.



High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

Eighteen months of related full-time work experience or equivalent, such as completion of eighteen college credits in Information Technology

Demonstrated English Language proficiency

A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.


New Hire: $17.83/hr* Incumbent: $20.16/hr

This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only.
