Testing Office Front Desk Receptionist Job Description

The Testing office coordinates college-wide testing activities at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC). The Testing Proctor works closely with the Academic Testing Coordinator Team and provides testing services in a professional and timely manner while adhering to CUNY and BMCC policies. The ideal candidate will have an approachable professional personality, a customer-oriented approach, a neat and detailed disposition, and respect for confidentiality and other guidelines set forth by the office. College Assistants can work a schedule of up to 19 hours per week and will be assigned the following

Job Responsibilities:

Manage testing center during shift, including opening/closing of testing center, preparing rooms between testing sessions, maintaining testing supplies and materials.

Maintain a secure and positive testing environment conducive to testing.

Ensure proper test security by safeguarding against improper test taking/cheating by actively circulating test centers, stating rules, and monitoring prohibited items.

Troubleshoot test administration problems, and ensure optimal testing conditions.

Administer computer and paper based exams according to testing guidelines.

Verify valid identification and distribute/collect testing materials.

Provide score reports to students, including making referrals to offices and personnel as appropriate.

Participate in meetings and training activities with department/college personnel and assist with special projects and activities as assigned.

Support institutional and departmental priorities and initiatives and uphold department standards and levels of professionalism.


Work schedule: Evening and Weekend

High school diploma or equivalent education is required.

The ideal candidate may NOT be enrolled in a CUNY school.

Professional demeanor, high ethical standards, and core values.

Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Internet applications.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to interface with a large multi-cultural population including students, faculty and administrators.

Exhibit independent initiative, dependability, adaptability, good judgement in handling challenging situations, and willingness to work collaboratively as a team.

Ability to push, pull, bend, carry up to lift 25lbs., and stand for long periods of time.

Candidates must undergo a background check, including a fingerprint screening (for a fee) and a verification of their education and work history.

Proctors are scheduled on an as-needed basis, therefore amount of hours will vary.

Maximum of 19 hours per week (seasonal).


Salary $13.50/hour
