College Laboratory Technician- Speech, Communication, and Theatre Arts

Performs highly-skilled laboratory functions and other technical duties in support of coursework.

Sets up, maintains, and organizes student laboratories Assists students with setting up experiments and other learning exercises, and with the use of equipment and materials.

Maintains appropriate safety and hygiene standards.

Maintains required documentation related to laboratory activities.

Manages equipment and materials inventories.


The successful candidate will be working in the new Derfner Communication Center, designed to help the basic speech course and individual students with English pronunciation, grammar, and articulation.

The Center has two rooms - a classroom with about 28 work stations and an a.v. computer system, and a small recording room where students and small groups may practice, record, and playback their presentations.

The individual work stations may be operated together with the same software or configured for separate operations.

The Derfner Communication Center will be used by classes, individual students, and the tutoring center.

Reports to the Department Chair and responsible for daily maintenance of Communication Center equipment and stations.

Set up and remove all AV and Computer equipment to support class lectures.

Maintain and update all instructional computers - hardware and software.

Provide workshops for faculty and students on use of software.

Schedule Center usage and tutoring.

Monitor and assist students using Center services.

Evening/Weekend hours maybe required.



High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree Working knowledge of Windows and Mac platforms, operating systems, and AV hardware and software Excellent interpersonal communication skills Ability to prioritize and work independently

SALARY: $36,795 - $54,848
