DUTIES:

GENERAL DUTIES:  

 
The Dean, reporting to senior executive management, oversees a school, division, academic program and/or function to enhance its profile, visibility, and effectiveness.  He/she develops long- and short-range plans, and exercises management responsibility for academic program planning, faculty matters, and administration, including staffing, budgets, and facilities.  He/she fosters a high-quality environment of academic teaching, research, and intellectual achievement, and creates and strengthens partnerships within and outside the College as a strong advocate.  

 
CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION  

 
The Dean for Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Initiatives reports to the Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and works closely with other vice presidents, deans, directors of institutional units, and faculty in ensuring the implementation of a comprehensive program of assessment designed to meet the continuous improvement goals of the college and the standards of relevant accreditation agencies.

He/she will provide energetic and professional leadership in the planning, development, promotion, and implementation of an integrated institutional effectiveness system aimed at improving programs and services. The successful candidate will have a long-term strategic focus that contributes to the overall achievement of the college's strategic priorities.

The Dean will oversee the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, and will engage in a broad range of research and reporting activities, including responsibility for routine and ad hoc data collection, data analysis, and data reporting for both internal and external audiences. He/she shall have oversight responsibility for the college's programmatic accreditation process.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

 
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.  Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.  

 
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS  

 
Doctorate with at least ten (10) years related experience required. Expertise in methodologies of evaluation, assessment, survey research, statistics, and data analysis; strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills; experience with SPSS statistical software, MS Office applications, and ability to work with complex computer information systems required.  Familiarity with HTML and Oracle Discoverer desired.

The successful candidate must be a creative academic leader who possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a team orientation, and a high energy level. Demonstrated experience in using data to foster improvement is essential. Candidate should have significant experience with strategic planning and assessment, and an understanding of programs that effectively promote student retention and success.  

SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
