Freshman Academy Coordinator (Academic Program Coordinator)

Provides basic operational and analytical support related to a College's specialized academic program.

Supports the directors and managers with orientation preparation, student advisement regarding program requirements, and providing basic information about financial aid and registration

Manages office records including faculty files; prepares reports and surveys; collects and maintains statistical data on program activities

Serves as liaison to various College offices to provide service delivery and appropriate referrals to students

Collects and reviews syllabi to ensure compliance with standards

Serves as resource person for students and faculty regarding program policies and procedures

May supervise office operations and/or monitor department budget

Performs related duties as assigned.

In fall 2012, Borough of Manhattan Community College implemented the Freshman Learning Academy (FLA) program for Liberal Arts students to build an integrated and comprehensive system of support for incoming first-time freshman students.  Our vision is that all first-time, full-time freshman students will be assigned to an academy aligned to their personal goals and interests.

The Freshman Learning Academy Coordinator is responsible for the daily activities of their cohort of students in the FLA Program.

The Freshman Learning Academy Coordinator will:

report to the FLA Program Supervisor.

focus on student advancement and success, including monitoring their progress, providing ongoing support, and promoting their academic persistence/success.

oversee and guide student progress from the point of admission through the first two semesters of college attendance.

work collaboratively with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and the faculty coordinators in advisement and registration of FLA students.

refer students to all appropriate support services, including, but not limited to, tutoring, academic advisement, counseling, career services, and financial aid.

assist in developing, implementing, and assessing an Early Alert system to proactively create ongoing contact with FLA students to ensure success both in and out of the classroom.

plan specific activities, including FLA orientation and workshops, and act as resource for faculty regarding student concerns.


Bachelor's Degree required.
Bachelor's degree in student personnel administration, higher education or a related field preferred.  Experience working with college students or young adults preferred.  Experience working with social media and marketing.  Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.  A detail-oriented person with the ability to manage several tasks simultaneously, exhibit independent initiative and good judgment, and work collaboratively with students, faculty and administrators.  Experience with event planning and promotion.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.  Some evening and weekend hours will be required.

SALARY: $35,576 - $41,623
