Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise.  Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

The Borough of Manhattan Community College seeks candidates for a full-time, tenure track position in Design and Technical Theatre, beginning in the fall of 2013.

The successful candidate will teach technical classes with design components such as Elements of Production, Production Practicum (lighting or costume preferred), as well as Introduction to Theatre.  Other classes could include Stage Management and Page to Stage.  Faculty are expected to participate fully in the operations of a growing and collaborative Department including planning, facilitating guest artists, and maintaining design budgets.  Faculty also share responsibilities such as designing and technical supervision of faculty directed productions, budget operations, supervising production crews and the Theatre Studio, and coordinating with the Tribeca Performing Arts Center.  All faculty participate in college activities, such as curriculum development, grant writing, assessment, and faculty development.  Productive scholarship expected.  Evening/weekend schedule required.


Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Ph.D. degree or MFA in area(s) of theatre, theatre design or related field.  For associate professor and professor, the candidate must have a record of significant achievement in the field and seven (7) years college teaching experience.

Applicants from all theatrical design, management and technical areas are encouraged to apply.  Our ideal candidate is professionally active in the theatre, familiar with current and past practices in design, will maintain industry-standard safety procedures in our space, possesses a demonstrated ability in leading a student production team, and experience teaching at the college level.

SALARY: Assistant Professor:  $42,873 - $74,133
Associate Professor:  $55,602 - $88,418
Professor:  $68,803 - $106,071
