Time and Leave Practices for October 29, 2012 through November 5, 2012 – Update

By memo dated November 6, 2012 we advised the campus community of the University’s guidelines on the Time & Leave Practices for October 29, 2012 through November 5, 2012.

Those guidelines provide in part:

“Part-time employees (e.g. college assistants, continuing education teaching adjuncts and adjuncts college laboratory technicians) shall not be paid for the day, but should be permitted to make up the hours of work lost in accordance with the needs and resources of the college.  When it is not feasible to assign make-up hours, the college may permit part-time employees to charge the absence to available annual leave, if the collective bargaining agreements covering the title provides annual leave (e.g. college assistants)”

While the college cannot waive University policy or guidelines, we will comply with the University policy by paying part-time personnel who have a weekly regularly assigned schedule and were scheduled to work the week of October 29, 2012 in advance, and allow these employees to make up the hours paid.  This payment will be included in their November 23, 2012 paycheck.  Employees who wish to decline to be paid and make up the hours may, of course, do so.  Employees who prefer to have some or all of the time charged to their accumulated annual leave bank will be given that option as well.

A separate memorandum will shortly follow providing department heads and department chairs with guidance on how this plan to pay the lost hours in advance will be implemented and monitored.
