David Steingard grew up in Tribeca, New York and was educated at neighboring Borough of Manhattan Community College/CUNY. He attended Baruch College/CUNY where he earned a BA in advertising and marketing. He later graduated from Brooklyn Law School and was admitted to the . David worked as a criminal prosecutor in the Kings County District Attorney’s office in Brooklyn, New York. In association with the actor Hugh Jackman, David formed Laughing Man Worldwide, a company in the Paul Newman/Newman’s Own model of corporate philanthropy with all profits going to charity.
A central tenet of the Laughing Man mission is to promote innovative and effective educational initiatives in the United States and abroad. Recent philanthropic projects include work with Harlem Village Academies, a group of three charter schools in New York City. Laughing Man strives to bring in companies under the corporate umbrella so that they are allied and in a philanthropic mission and philosophy.
The first company under the Laughing Man Worldwide banner is Laughing Man Coffee & Tea, which has a shop at 184 Duane Street as well as a proprietary coffee blend - “184 Duane” – in honor of that address. The coffee and tea enterprise was inaugurated after Mr. Jackman visited Ethiopia with World Vision International and met local coffee farmers. As part of the mission Laughing Man is providing education for farmers on how to upgrade the processing of their coffee crop.
David continues to live in Tribeca with his wife and children.
