is placement? |
| Placement is the process
by which you select, are interviewed for, and begin working in a FWS
job position. |
| How
does placement work? |
| Placement requires that you do the following: |

Complete and submit the required forms to the FWS Placement Office |
| 2. |
Search and apply for a FWS job online |
| 3. |
Schedule a job interview |
| What
kinds of FWS jobs are there? |

On-Campus Assignments |
| |
You will work in one of the BMCC's offices or
departments. There are a variety of on-campus positions available
from office aide to language tutor. The minimum hourly rate
for on-campus jobs is $7.25 but may be higher depending on the
skills required. |

Off-Campus Assignments |
| |
You will work for a non-profit or eligible for-profit organization
that has signed an agreement with the City University of New
York to employ FWS students. Off-campus job opportunities
are varied and numerous and may be located in any one of the
5 boroughs. Assignments range from serving as a counselor
in a youth center to being an accountant's assistant in a
small business. The general salary range is from $7.25 to
$9.00 per hour. The off-campus employer shares with the the FWS program the costs of
paying the students they employ. |

Public Service Corps (PSC) |

The Public Service Corps offers FWS students internships
at one of more than 30 participating NYC agencies.
If you become a PSC intern, you will have the chance to work
in such diverse areas as social work, computer technology, accounting,
health, and office administration, to name but a few. Hourly
pay rates begin at $7.25 per hour. PSC interns are paid every
2 weeks according to a separate PSC pay calendar and must follow
this agency's policies and procedures to receive payment on
time. |

Community Service Assignments |

You are encouraged to consider community service
opportunities as you search for an appropriate FWS assignment.
Job assignments that fit the community service description
involve health care, child care, literacy training, public safety,
and other services designed to improve the quality of life for
NYC residents, particularly to low income individuals. Community
service positions are available both on- and off-campus and
through the Public Service Corps. |
