APPLY FOR A FEDERAL DIRECT LOAN
Before you apply for a Federal Direct Loan, we strongly suggest that you learn about the Direct Loan program by reading the Federal Direct Loan Q & A.
Follow These Steps to Request a Federal Direct Loan:
1. File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at: www.fafsa.ed.gov.
2. If you are a first-time Direct Loan borrower at BMCC, you must complete Entrance Counseling.
3. Decide the amount you wish to borrow [refer to the Maximum Loan Amounts table] and learn what happens after you submit your loan request.
4. If you are a first-time Direct Loan borrower at BMCC, you must sign an Electronic Master Promissory Note (e-MPN) at www.dlenote.ed.gov using the PIN you used to sign your FAFSA.
After signing the e-MPN, you must return to this page to complete STEP 5!
5.

Complete and submit an online Fall 2009-Spring 2010 Federal Direct Loan Request.
Loan requests submitted after Friday December 11, 2009 will be processed for the Spring 2010 semester.

6. If you are dependent and your parents wish to request a Federal Direct PLUS Loan, you must fill out and submit a paper Fall 2009-Spring 2010 Federal Direct PLUS Loan Request. You must complete and submit this paper form to the Financial Aid Office to apply for a PLUS Loan. You cannot use the electronic loan request form on PANTHER.

Parents who are first time PLUS Loan borrowers must sign an Electronic Master Promissory Note (e-MPN) online at www.dlenote.ed.gov using a Department of Education PIN. If your parents do not know or have forgotten their PIN, they may apply for a new one at www.pin.ed.gov.

INCREASE YOUR FEDERAL DIRECT LOAN
If you have already submitted a loan request for the 2009-10 school year but need to ask for additional loan funds, complete and submit a Fall 2009-Spring 2010 Federal Direct Loan Increase Request.

CANCEL YOUR FEDERAL DIRECT LOAN
If you have already submitted a loan request for the 2009-10 school year but now wish to cancel your loan, complete and submit a Fall 2009-Spring 2010 Federal Direct Loan Cancellation Request.
