was created by the New York City Council to recognize graduates
of New York City high schools who attained a "B"
or higher average and successfully completed at least 12 College
Preparatory Initiative (Regents level) year long courses.
How
do I qualify?
To
qualify for a Vallone Scholarship, you must have met the minimum
academic requirements listed above and enroll as full-time
student at a branch of the City University of New York within
one year of high school graduation.
Are
there any other requirements?
Yes. You must:

a Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year
as a condition for payment of the award. |

Maintain
continuous full-time enrollment within CUNY. |
 |
Maintain
a cumulative grade point average of "B" or better. |
 |
Carry
a minimum of 6 college-level credits as part of your full-time
course load in your first term of enrollment. |
 |
Carry
a minimum of 12 credits that count towards your degree
every semester after the first. |
 |
Accumulate
39 credits towards your associate degree by the end of
your 4th semester. |
How
much do I receive?
Award
amounts vary each year according to the program appropriation
made by the New York City Council in the city budget.
How
long can I receive this award?
You
may receive this award for up to 6 semesters as an associate
degree student depending on your continuing to meet the eligibility
requirements listed above.
When will I receive
the award?
The college will determine if you meet
the full-time enrollment requirement each semester before
authorizing payment of this award. This occurs around the
mid-point of each semester. When your eligible full-time enrollment
has been determined, the Office of Financial Aid will issue
you an award certificate detailing the amount of the award
and the date you may expect to receive it. You will also be
notified if you have lost eligibility for the award.
