an award given to undergraduate students who show exceptional
financial need. FSEOG is available only to students who have
not earned a first bachelor's degree or professional certificate.
What are the eligibility
requirements?
To receive FSEOG, you must meet the eligibility requirements
for federal student aid described in the section on PELL.
How do I apply?
Apply for FSEOG by completing a FAFSA.
You do not indicate on the application that you wish to apply
for FSEOG. You are automatically considered for this award
if you ask for FWS or Federal
Perkins Loan assistance.
How much FSEOG can
I receive?
How much you receive depends on your financial need, the amount
of the money budgeted to the program and the other financial
aid you have been awarded.
How will I know if
I have been awarded FSEOG?
When you receive your award
letter from the College, it will indicate whether or not
you have been awarded FSEOG. After July 1st of the award year,
you may check your award status on PANTHER
-- BMCC's online student information system. Access PANTHER
from the BMCC Home Page.
How will I be paid?
There is a single disbursement
of FSEOG each semester according to the Financial Aid Disbursement Schedule.
How many credits do
I have to take to be eligible?
You must register for and maintain enrollment status of half-time
(6 credits or equated credits) or greater to be eligible for
FSEOG. If, for any reason, your course load falls below half-time,
payments of your award will be stopped.
What is the difference
between FSEOG and Pell?
For the PELL program, the federal
government guarantees that the College will receive enough
money to pay PELL to its eligible students. For the FSEOG
program, each school receives a fixed amount of money to make
FSEOG awards. Once this money is awarded, there is no more
for that academic year. It is important that you file your
applications early in the academic year so that you get maximum
consideration for limited FSEOG funds.
