Neil Kernis

Instructor, Developmental Skills

Neil Kernis is studying for an EdD in Adult Learning and Leadership at Teachers College of Columbia University. He holds a BS in Social Work from Skidmore College and an MA in International Affairs from the New School.

He comes to BMCC from Year Up, an innovative youth workforce development organization, where he taught business communications. From 2009 to 2013 he taught developmental reading at LaGuardia Community College, as both an adjunct and as a substitute lecturer. He has also taught for the Rutgers University Writing Program and developed CAT-W and CPE Workshops for CUNY-City Tech. As a 2007/08 Fulbright Scholar, he taught courses on American culture and politics for the MA Program in American Studies at the Universitatea de Vest (University of the West) in Timisoara, Romania. His primary research interests include adult immigrant literacy education and workforce training, as well as the immigrant experience in community college.
