Cheryl  Comeau-Kirschner

Assistant Professor, Developmental Skills

Cheryl Comeau-Kirschner received her Ph.D. in Literacy, Language, and Learning from Fordham University in 2014. Her dissertation was Training in the Writing Center: Senior Administrator and Tutor Perspectives on English Language Learner Best Practices. Professor Comeau-Kirschner is also a proud CUNY graduate with a BA in Business Journalism from Baruch College and MA in TESOL (Adult Track) from Hunter College.
She has taught lower- and upper-level academic reading and writing to English language learners and native English-speakers as an Instructor at Queensborough Community College and LaGuardia Community College and as an adjunct lecturer at BMCC and John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Her research interests include: English language learner literacy assessment; metacognitive awareness and self-efficacy in adult learning; tutor-training methodology and practice in college-level writing centers; and communities of practice and knowledge management in educational and professional settings.
