Common Blackboard issues

The following is a list of frequent issues and possible solutions for Blackboard. As always, you may contact the E-Learning Center if they need further assistance:

A. Resetting Your Account.

“ I don’t know my Username.”

“I don’t know my Password.”

After you reach portal.cuny.edu, click on the link that reads “Forgot Your Username or Password?” After clicking that, click the “Here” link under Account & Password Reset. Then, put in your name, social security, and birthday, and it will give you your username and ask you to type in a new password. After that, you will be brought back to the log in screen, where you will put in your username and password to log on.

B. E-Mail

“I’m not receiving the e-mails sent from my professor through Blackboard.”

You may need to activate your BMCC E-mail. Instructions can be found at www.bmcc.cuny.edu/email/student_email.html

You can always change the email tied to your Blackboard to another cuny.edu account. After you log on to CUNY Portal, click on the Blackboard link. On the left side, under “Welcome,” there is a box marked “Tools.” There, you can update your e-mail by clicking on “Update Email.”

C. Blackboard Link

“After I sign onto CUNY Portal, I don’t see a Blackboard link.”

Try resetting your Account by following the directions in A. Resetting Your Account.

D. No Course/s

“I can get into Blackboard but my class is missing.”

“I can get into Blackboard but all my classes are missing.”

This may be a couple of issues. The first solution is to reset your account by following the directions in A. Resetting Your Account. The second solution may be that your professor/s may not be using Blackboard in the course. Only classes using Blackboard will show up in your Blackboard courses.

If these solutions don’t do the trick, you have an issue with Blackboard that isn’t listed, or you just simply want to go over Blackboard with someone, feel free to visit E-Learning Center’s Student Technical Support in S-501a. You may also e-mail student technical support through esupport@bmcc.cuny.edu or call (212) 220-8126.
