Cecilia Scott-Croff

Cecilia Scott-Croff is an experienced administrator, teacher, staff developer and advocate for families. She has been in the Early Childhood field for more than twenty years. Cecilia is zealous in her approach to supporting young children and their Families. She has two Master’s degrees; one with a concentration in Early Childhood Education and the other in Administration and Supervision.

The Family Resource Program Coordinator, Robert provides support services for families. A parent himself, Robert recognizes the crucial role parents play in their children's development and serves as an enthusiastic parent advocate at the Center. Services include a weekly Parent Support Group, individual parent and child counseling, supportive play for children behavioral concerns, parenting workshops, a parent resource library, and referrals to outside services when appropriate. Robert is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with extensive training and experience in child and family counseling.

 

Angelo Guerrero

Angelo Guerrero, the Center's part-time Bookkeeper, he has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Hunter College. He is currently also working at Sesame Sprout and in Polish-American Media, INC. as a Full Charge Bookkeeper/Accountant.

Did you complete all of the necessary paperwork? Do you have weekend classes? If your answer is "yes" then please meet Yvonne Gutierrez, Office Manager of the Early Childhood Center. An employee since 2000, Yvonne has a strong background in the arts and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Pace University.

 

Mireille Laporte

As the Family Childcare Network Coordinator, Mireille's role is to support parents and ensure they are paired with the right quality childcare provider for their children younger than two years of age. Mireille serves as a liaison between parents and childcare providers. She takes pride in helping families find a safe and nurturing environment their children can learn and grow in. She has fifteen years of experience in the field of family childcare. Mireille has an associate's degree in Early Childhood Education.

 

Marisely Villanueva

Mariesely Villanueva is the receptionist for the Early Childhood Center. Mariesely is described as hardworking, committed and professional with strong interpersonal skills. Mariesely has been she has an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Art’s and is EMT certified eligible. She has been with the Center for four years.

Candida Aduku

Candida Aduku is a Teacher's Aide and has been working at the Early Childhood Center since spring 2013. She obtained her Child Development Associate (CDA) certification. Presently, she is an undergraduate student at City College of New York completing her degree in History, and plans to obtain her master’s degree in Early Childhood.

 

Taylor Brandon

Taylor Brandon received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance from Hofstra University and his Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from City College. He has been with the Early Childhood Center since 2011 and enjoys incorporating performing arts into his classroom, curriculum and throughout the Center. Taylor is excited to continue his growth and experience at the Early Childhood Center.

 

Rafelina Fernandez

Rafelina Fernandez has been working as an Assistant Teacher for three years at the Early Childhood Center; she works with the four year olds. She has her Associate’s degree in Early Childhood education from Borough of Manhattan Community College. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education at the City College of New York. Rafelina finds that interacting with children is a fulfilling experience. She believes that the best part of being a teacher is always being able to grow and learn from her experiences with children. She also believes that each individual child is special and unique in their own ways, which contributes to children's learning experiences in any environment they are in.

 

Janelle Hester

Janelle Hester has been working with children for the past eight years. She has an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. Janelle enjoys working with children and helping them learn new things. Children are the key to the future she is honored to be a part of the process. Janelle is attending City College of New York completing her undergraduate degree in Early Childhood.

 

Stacey Johnson-Maynard

Stacey Johnson-Maynard has a Master’s degree with Dual Concentration in Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Special Education. Stacey is New York State certified Birth through 2nd Grade in Early Childhood Education and will soon receive her Special Education Certification. Stacey has been working at the Early Childhood Center since fall 2008 and has several years of experience working with children ages 2-6. Stacey plans to foster a child centered classroom environment in which children can learn utilizing developmentally appropriate practices. Stacey loves working with children and plans to use music in the daily routines to help the children enjoy their learning experiences.

 

Suhad Mohamed-Shehata

Suhad A. Mohamed-Shehata is a new teacher with acquired knowledge and an ever growing passion to work with children and serves as a resource and their facilitator. She is a graduate from The City College of New York with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and will soon obtain a New York State Initial Certification for ages, birth to second grade. Throughout her education she has learned to highly value each child's culture and past experiences to create a classroom setting of learning that will be suitable for their development. In addition, she is passionate about providing an adequate environment that fosters children's desire to explore and become active learners. “As I embark on this new teaching journey, I wish to work collaboratively with children and their families so that we all create a supportive learning environment.”

 

Edward Opgrand

Edward Opgrand began working for the Early Childhood Center in 2011 as an Assistant Teacher in the Blue Room. Now as an Interim Head Teacher in the Blue Room, he is committed to making learning fun and engaging for the students. A musician as well as an educator; Edward loves to incorporate a wide variety of musical instruments, songs, and styles into the curriculum and connect it to other aspects of learning. He believes every child should have access and exposure to music to help foster their creativity. By allowing a child’s creativity to thrive, they become more comfortable in the classroom and become more engaged with learning.

 

Sori Palacio

Sori Palacio holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from City College of New York, and has been at the Early Childhood Center for 12 years. She started working at the Center as a Work Study Student while she was pursuing her Associates degree in Early Childhood Education at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. Currently, Sori is working as a Head Teacher with three year olds. Sori holds a New York State Teacher Certification in Early Childhood Education and she is completing her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education at Hunter College. Sori likes to focus on helping children develop their emergent literacy and social emotional skills.

 

Meenu Pankaj

Meenu Pankaj has a Master's degree in Science and Education from India and is currently obtaining a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Ashford University. It has been a little over 15 years since Meenu has been teaching young children. Meenu has been teaching at the Early Childhood Center with School–Age children in the Weekend Program for five years. Meenu is looking forward to the completion of her teacher certification.

 

Judith Peralta

Judith Peralta has been teaching at the Early Childhood for more than five years. She is the Center's School Age Director. She works collaboratively with the Evening and Weekend program. Judith has a tremendous love for children and places a high standard on learning. She possesses a calm attitude and a superb understanding of children's needs. Parents are surprised how comfortable their children are with her. As per Judith, "Children are an inspiration; each child holds a promise to our future".

 

Katherine Perez

Katherine Perez is a Teacher's Aide. She is currently working on her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Katherine started working at the Early Childhood Center as a work-study student and has been working at the Center since spring 2009. Katherine has experience with children ages 2-10 and enjoys working with children and helping them grow. Katherine believes that the best part of working with children is watching them achieve something that they have tried very hard to accomplish.

 

Elaine Pricher

Elaine Pricher is an Assistant Teacher for the Center's Evening and Saturday program. She has been with the Center for more than twenty years. She has a strong connection with families and has been instrumental in implementing various programs throughout the Center.

 

Shirlgandy Saint Jean

Shirlgandy Saint Jean graduated from Borough of Manhattan Community College with an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts. She is currently working towards her Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and a Minor Degree in Early Childhood Education. Shirlgandy enjoys working with children while being inspired by them, she believes that every child needs someone to inspire and care for them.

 

Patrizia Sicilia

Patrizia Sicilia has worked in the Early Childhood Field since 2002 and has an Associates's Degree in Early Childhood. She has experience with children three months to four years old. She believes exploration & hands on activities are essential for every young child's development and learning experience. Patrizia enjoys implementing yoga in the classes throughout the Center.

 

Glenda Torres

Glenda Torres has been teaching for over ten years. She has a Bachelor's of Science in Education with a concentration in Early Childhood Education and Child Development from SUNY Oneonta. She has a Master's of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from City College of New York and is a New York State certified teacher. She enjoys her work with the children as she prepares them for their transition into kindergarten.

Norma Torres is an Assistant Teacher. Norma has been with the Early Childhood Center for more than twenty years. She works with two year olds. She loves working with the children, and is currently assigned to the yellow room.

 

Katherine Villanueva

Katherine Villanueva is an Assistant Teacher at the Early Childhood Center and has been working at the Center since fall 2010. She graduated with an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education (three to six), in spring 2013. Katherine has been working and gaining more experience with two year olds. Working with young children is her passion, creating fun and challenging developmentally appropriate activities is her goal. She enjoys artistic expression and utilizes her interest to enhance children's art exploration. Katherine feels that, "Every child is unique and teachers should respect their individuality."
