The Early Childhood Center (ECC) Parents Club is a wonderful resource, giving parents a chance to meet and chat with other parents as well as ECC staff. We have weekly meetings on Wednesdays between 2 and 4 p.m. in the Early Childhood Center and serve coffee, tea and some snacks.
In addition to general discussion, we often discuss topics of interest to parents such as managing a busy schedule of school, work and being a parent. We also involve parents in planning special events for the children, such as a trip to a museum or the theatre.
The Parents Club provides a safe space for parents to discuss topics that interest them. Parents suggest things to talk about. Past discussions have included: (1) child support; (2) how to access support on campus; (3) getting together off campus with parents of children of similar ages; (4) potty training; (5) clothes swap; (6) temperamental children; (7) developmentally appropriate practices and (8) lice.
The BMCC Parent Club advocates for student parents and provides workshops and other opportunities for parents to come together for support around the joys and challenges of parenting. Parenting is the most important job there is - Get Involved!!!
