BMCC's distance learning classes use the Internet for teaching and learning.
You can:
How is distance learning the same as on-site (classroom) learning?
How is distance learning different from on-site learning?
Is distance learning easier than on-site learning?
No.
Students often think the course will be easier, but it isn't. In fact, it is sometimes harder. Since there are no class meetings, the only way you are "present" is if you write your thoughts down and send them to the class. This requires thoughtfulness and time. You probably spend about the same time on reading and assignments as you would in a classroom-based class, and the writing probably takes about the same time as sitting in a classroom would, but some people experience distance learning as being more intense.
Blackboard orientation sessions for on-line students will be presented by the Learning Resource Center. Contact Greg Farrell in the LRC for more info. (gfarrell@bmcc.cuny.edu)

Please note: this is a GENERAL ORIENTATION and should not be attended in place of an instructor's scheduled face-to-face orientation session.
Students who wish to take online courses and are not already BMCC students must follow the same application process as students who wish to take courses on campus.
For information about applying to BMCC visit the Admissions web site.
If you have questions about the registration process, see registration information.
